If the weather isn’t too bad, Frank Remagen likes to head to the Rhine on Sundays. There, the 65-year-old from Cologne walks briskly along the river with his Nordic walking poles. The former head of the meat and sausage manufacturer “Hardy Remagen” feels right at home near water and boats. Ever since he handed over management of the long-established company to his daughters, Nina and Nane Remagen, five years ago, he has frequently made time for these kinds of relaxing, slow-paced outings.

High Standards in the Restaurant Industry

During one of these tours, several KD anchored near the Old Town caught Remagen’s attention. “It occurred to me right away that a company like Köln-Düsseldorfer and ours might be a good fit. I knew, of course, that KD is KD very good host and sets high standards in the restaurant business. It’s no coincidence that in 2018 we celebrated our 300th anniversary with our entire staff aboard a KD ship.”

The idea turned into a plan, which led to a concrete partnership. There’s a lot of girl power behind it. In addition to the Remagen sisters, KD Managing Director Nina Luig was also enthusiastic about the idea. They quickly reached an agreement: The two companies, both with deep regional roots, will send a joint message of enjoyment and collaboration—and they’ll do so sustainably. To mark the 200th anniversary of Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt GmbH, Hardy Remagen GmbH & Co. KG and KD are launching KD long-term partnership focused on indulgence. The partnership centers on high-quality products and a connection to the region. This collaboration will also be visible on the outside. The “MS Willi Ostermann,” one of the most historic ships in KD, will in future bear the Remagen logo and the slogan “Pleasure with Passion,” thereby becoming a floating ambassador for the partnership.

The traditional ship, affectionately known as the “Müllemer Böötche,” has KD service for KD since April 2025 and is primarily used for panoramic cruises in Cologne. It is also well-suited for exclusive events with 40 to 140 guests. The partnership between Remagen and KD set to last five years. The focus is on supplying the entire KD fleet with high-quality, regional products. In addition to classics such as bratwurst, Krakauer, beef sausage, bockwurst, and meatballs, the assortment also includes various dips as well as a specially created KD, which, by the way, is also available KD purchase at the KD ticket office in Cologne KD home.

In KD ’s anniversary year, this offering KD rounded out by the specially developed “200 Years KD “We KD ’s passion for quality and connection to the region. It’s a perfect fit,” says Nina Remagen. “The 200-gram anniversary sausage stands out thanks to its special blend of spices and is, for us, a wonderful symbol of this special partnership,” adds her sister Nane. “With Remagen, we have a partner at our side who is a perfect fit for our culinary standards and is helping to make our anniversary year a delightful experience,” says Nina Luig.

To mark the maiden voyage of the branded ship, a special cruise was held on the Rhine. In addition to the Remagen family, senior executives from the Hürth-based company were also on board. To celebrate the occasion, Frank Remagen took a seat in the wheelhouse of the Willi Ostermann, which measures about five square meters. He holds a boat license and steered the ship safely and confidently from the Old Town to Rodenkirchen and back again.
