Timetable Information

Which ship is operating on the journey I have booked?

One week before departure, we publish our ship movements list (in German Schiffsbewegungsliste, or SBL), which tells you which ship is operating.

Will the ship listed on the timetable be on time?

There may be deviations from the timetable due to high or low water levels, a high volume of passengers and other traffic obstructions resulting from breakdowns or malfunctions which are not the fault of KD and for which KD is not obliged to offer a replacement service. KD does not accept liability for any missed connections.

What should I keep in mind with regard to low/high water levels?

We will inform passengers of last-minute cancellations on the KD website. If the trip is cancelled by KD, the legitimate ticket holder will receive a refund of the ticket price upon presentation of the ticket at the office where it was purchased.

Will the ship wait for passengers who have booked a journey?

In order to avoid delays in the schedule, ships cannot wait for individual passengers. In the event of a late arrival, please go to the KD ticket office on site and take a later departure, if possible. We ask that groups that have booked a journey contact our KD head office to find out about alternative departure points/times in the event of a late arrival.

I don't understand the timetable, who can help me?

Please contact the nearest KD agent or the KD head office to receive information from a member of staff.

Why are you called "Köln-Düsseldorfer" when you do not serve the route from Cologne to Dusseldorf?

The history of what is today "KD Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt" dates back to its founding year of 1826. At that time, two companies existed: "Preußisch-Rheinische Dampfschiffahrt-Gesellschaft" (headquartered in Cologne) and "Dampfschiffahrts-Gesellschaft für den Nieder- und Mittelrhein" (headquartered in Dusseldorf). Due to various economic factors, it was not possible for both companies to sustainably coexist and so, on 9 June 1853, the joint venture "Kölnische und Düsseldorfer Gesellschaft für Rhein-Dampfschiffahrt" was founded.

During KD's long history, the route network was constantly adapted and today the ships do not sail between Dusseldorf and Cologne, partly because the scenery along this route is less attractive and also because the journey would take 5 hours to sail upriver and 3 hours downriver.

Online Shop

Which journeys/tickets can I purchase online?

The following journeys can be booked via the online shop:

• Scheduled services on the Rhine and Moselle within the scope of the KD timetable

• Panoramic cruises in Dusseldorf, Cologne and Frankfurt

• Combined tickets for the Siebengebirge mountain range and Koblenz

What forms of payment are accepted in the online shop?

We accept credit cards (Visa or Mastercard), Paypal and Sofortüberweisung (a direct payment service).

How will I receive my tickets?

Depending on the journey, you may choose between print-at-home and posted tickets. Posted tickets will be sent to you via post. Print-at-home tickets will be sent to you via e-mail. A good-quality printout of this ticket in DIN A4 format must be presented to staff upon embarking the ship. Failing this, or if the ticket is illegible, a fee will be charged for a replacement ticket.

Are there any fees?

In addition to an advance booking charge and service charge per ticket, an order fee may be charged. The amount of any potential charges and fees will be indicated during the booking process. In the event that the buyer requests tickets, admission tickets or gift vouchers to be sent via post (instead of print-at-home), the buyer does so at their own risk. The total price of the order includes statutory VAT and is due for full payment, including all fees, immediately upon conclusion of the contract.

Can I change my booking? Is there a re-booking fee?

You may change your booking up to one day prior to the departure date, provided that the desired alternative journey costs the same price or less. In this case, we can change your reservation as per your request. You will receive any difference in price in the form of an online voucher. Please contact us in writing with your re-booking request. A re-booking fee will not be charged.
It is not possible to book an alternative journey that costs more than your original booking. In this case, we can cancel your booking in accordance with our cancellation policy.

Can I cancel my booking? Is there a cancellation fee?

Why do I need to provide my name, address and telephone number when making a booking?

Unfortunately, external factors may occasionally cause cruises to be cancelled. We therefore need your contact information in order to keep you up to date of any changes. KD will not send you any promotional material unless you explicitly request it.
