Ehrenbreitstein Fortress

Over recent years the fortress itself has evolved into one of the most important cultural centres in the region. Around 700,000 people from all over the world visited and experienced Ehrenbreitstein in 2015. The current fortress was built between 1817 and 1828, but it is much older in origin. An adventure route covering 5,000 years of history extends through the entire site. It takes you over the paths on which Prussian soldiers once patrolled, deep into an excavation site shown using multimedia, and high up to the flag tower with its magnificent view. The Landesmuseum Koblenz in Ehrenbreitstein Fortress comprises four exhibition houses. With its focus on an archaeological tour, the “Wine Region Rhineland-Palatinate” and sophisticated photography, the museum offers an astonishingly wide range of topics. The cultural highlight of 2016 is the special exhibition Eiszeitsafari (“Ice Age Safari”), which will take place from 20 March to 30 October. The rich variety of around 400 large and small events per year is also remarkable.
