The GOETHE is the most popular and extraordinary member of the KD fleet. When the ship was commissioned in 1913, nobody would have dreamed that it would still be delighting people on the Rhine over 100 years later.

Swimming story

The sight of the turning paddle wheels brings old times back to life. When you enter the salons with their true-to-original Art Deco furnishings, you feel transported back to the Roaring Twenties. The largest side-wheel ship in the world to this day has had an eventful history since it was commissioned in 1913 and even spent several years at the bottom of the Rhine after being hit by a bomb during the Second World War. Since its extensive restoration in 1996, the GOETHE has shone in its current splendor and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.

KD Nostalgie-Route

The tour on the GOETHE paddlewheel boat along the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Rhine provides an authentic experience of the picturesque landscape. From the end of April to the beginning of October, the “old lady” sails daily (except Mondays) on the so-called KD Nostalgia Route between Koblenz and Rüdesheim. The ship’s horn sounds every morning at 9.00 a.m. in Koblenz to set sail. A real experience!

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the ship is not ideally suited for guests with limited mobility. Access to the main deck of the ship is approx. 50 cm higher and the upper deck is only accessible via a staircase. A wheelchair-accessible disabled toilet is available on the main deck.
