Team events during training
Your training should not only be educational, but also varied and personal. That's why team events are an integral part of our training program. Joint activities give you the opportunity to get to know your fellow trainees and trainers outside of the everyday work environment and grow together as a team.
Why do we do this? Because we are convinced that we can achieve more together. Team events strengthen cohesion, promote exchange, and help you develop important social skills such as communication and team spirit. At the same time, they ensure fun, motivation, and a good balance to everyday training. This is how we create an atmosphere in which you feel comfortable, can get involved, and enjoy being part of our KD.
Social Days
During your training, it's not just about growing professionally, but also about taking on responsibility and looking beyond your own everyday work. That's exactly what our KD Day is for. On this day, you and other trainees get involved in social or charitable projects and can actively make a difference. We also take part in the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce's annual Social Day.
Baking event Street Angels Cologne
In 2024 and 2025, we baked Christmas cookies for the homeless charity Cologne Street Angels e.V. at our KD Day. On December 14, 2025, around 1,400 decorated cookies were distributed together with Street Angels Cologne e.V. at the Christmas party for homeless people.
Social Day of the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce
On September 11, 2025, our trainees from all training occupations took part in the Social Day organized by the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce.The trainees were out and about at Gut Leidenhausen, where they helped with various environmental projects: collecting wood for the wildlife enclosure, pouring concrete for the new mammal nature trail, and doing preparatory woodwork for hedgehog houses, birdhouses, and dormouse houses.
After the work was done, there was a barbecue and the trainees were given an interesting tour of the Gut Leidenhausen grounds, where they learned a lot about birds of prey in care/breeding, hedgehogs, fallow deer, and other animal species.
With a great deal of dedication, fun, and enjoyment, our trainees supported the Leidenhausen estate, and here they were also able to fully realize their desire to do something for the environment on Social Day.
company tours
We regularly visit other companies with our trainees to see how other companies work, how they are organized, and what processes they use. This helps you to better understand the bigger picture and put your own training into context. In 2025, we visited the control center of the Cologne Fire Department, which helped us become more aware of how we should respond to an emergency call on the water or on land.
excursions
Our first team event at the bowling alley focused on one thing above all else: spending time together and having fun. Away from the daily routine of training, you had the opportunity to get to know your fellow trainees and trainers from a completely different perspective, laugh, exchange ideas, and grow together as a team.
Team events like these are particularly important to us because they strengthen cohesion and promote a sense of unity. Bowling isn't just about points, but about mutual motivation, fairness, and team spirit. During our trip to see the Kölner Haie ice hockey team, we were able to experience team spirit on the ice—the tickets were kindly sponsored by the KEC for our involvement in Social Day.
These shared experiences build trust, promote communication, and have a positive effect on cooperation in everyday training. After all, those who feel comfortable in a team learn better, are more motivated, and tackle challenges together.

Sometimes we just take breaks together to get to know each other better and chat outside of the everyday work environment. Especially at the beginning of the training program, taking breaks together helps us connect more quickly and become part of the community.
onboarding day
Your training with us begins with an onboarding day with your fellow trainees, trainers, and the HR team on the ship. On this day, we will work together to identify values, rights, and obligations during the training program and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.
