Oberwesel

Oberwesel lies at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley and is often referred to as the town of towers and wine.

The appearance of the town is still strongly influenced by the Middle Ages and the visitor is taken back in time by Schönburg Castle, the well-preserved, accessible town wall, fortified towers. churches and museums. Oberwesel is an excellent starting point for hiking trips, cycle tours and boat trips and is the venue for nationally famous events such as "Rhine in Flames" and the medieval Spectaculum.

Town wall

The town wall of Oberwesel with its 16 defence towers is the best-preserved town wall on the Middle Rhine. This medieval fortification has been open to tourists for many years. It is thus now possible to walk along many parts of the town wall. A walk on the wall can become an exciting journey into the past.

Schönburg Castle

Schönburg Castle can look back on an exciting history. Perched on a wooded hill, it was first mentioned in documents in 1149. Today it houses an international youth hostel and the “Burghotel” with the “Restaurant auf Schönburg”.
