Elector’s Castle Eltville on the Rhine

The Elector’s Castle, the landmark of the town, was built in the first half of the 14th century. At one time the Archbishops and Electors of Mainz resided here. Today, Eltville Castle, with its inner bailey, moat and garden, is ideal for strolling and lingering amongst the splendid beds of roses. It provides the setting for numerous festivals and cultural events.

Eberbach Abbey

One of the most important medieval cultural monuments in Hesse. Former Cistercian monastery. In the Middle Ages, centre of wine-growing in Rheingau. Basilica (1145-1186) with Gothic side chapels (1310-1340), cloister, monks’ and laymen’s refectory, hospital (1215-1220), library building (c. 1500), monks’ dormitory and chapter house.
