Bingen

Welcome to the gateway to the Middle Rhine - to the town of the Mouse Tower, good wine and St. Hildegard of Bingen.

Located on the Rhine and Nahe and actually in four different wine-growing regions, the town of Bingen was always a favourite destination for Rhine romantics. It has much to offer for cycling, walking or wine-drinking holidays, but also for anyone interested in history and culture.

Offers on site

Culture Embankment

The river promenade in Bingen is clearly the main attraction, offering three kilometres full of museums, parks, vineyards, venues and restaurants (KD Pavilion with the River Side) directly by the ship landing stage.

Mäuseturm

First a customs tower, then a signal location, and finally a world-famous landmark. The name “Mäuseturm” (Mouse Tower), which was first mentioned in documents in 1516, presumably comes from its function as a watchtower. But even in olden days, the tower was connected with the legend of Bishop Hatto who, as a punishment for his lack of mercy, is said to have been eaten alive by mice there.

Hildegard of Bingen

On the trail of the Physica: As a permanent addition to the Hildegard of Bingen exhibition in the Museum am Strom (Museum by the River) right next to it, a garden features numerous plants which Hildegard described in her work on natural medicine (“Physica”). In a total of 15 topic beds of plants and eight single beds, this educational “Hildegarden” presents the “Book of Plants” and the “Book of Trees” from the “Physica” and illustrates the medicinal applications described there with appropriate gravity.
