Many more KD services in Düsseldorf

In early May, joggers, cyclists and walkers on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf were met with an unusual sight. On this early Sunday morning, two long queues had formed at the Köln-Düsseldorfer Rheinschiffahrt GmbH (KD) jetty at Burgplatz. One to the right of the floating jetty, one to the left. Who were these people? On one side the guests who had booked a brunch cruise were waiting to board. On the other were lots of onlookers who had gathered to take a look at KD’s new star vessel, the MS RheinGalaxie. The impressive KD event ship departed on time at 10 a.m. for the brunch cruise, to applause from the riverbank. The event liner had only been christened a few days earlier.

A brunch cruise with a view

The 300 or so guests on the brunch cruise were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice. Freshly brewed coffee and a selection of bread rolls and croissants were already waiting on the laid tables. Scrambled eggs, fried sausages and crispy bacon, smoked salmon, sliced meats, cheese, jam, honey, muesli and yoghurt – everything that a good breakfast is made of – was available from the buffet. The food on offer changed later on, when the kitchen team served hot dishes such as turkey strips in sauce, roast pork with Alt beer gravy and Asian vegetable curry, along with side dishes including antipasti, “Spätzle” noodles, basmati rice, garden vegetables, asparagus salad and green salad. For dessert there were a variety of crèmes and mousses as well as cakes. Between meals, many of the guests took the opportunity to explore the magnificent new ship. Torsten Kaufmann from Ratingen was especially impressed by the large open deck with staggered levels. “The viewing platform and the dance floor are fantastic. I can imagine it’s a great place for a party. His mother had invited him on the brunch cruise, but the 26-year-old student wants to come back with his friends to party. “The view from the ship to Medienhafen port isn’t bad either.”

A comfortable workplace in the KD galley

The team led by head chef Michael Heinze doesn’t get to see the beautiful panoramic view of Düsseldorf city. Firstly, he and the chefs – five men and one woman – and the three dishwashers have their hands full. Secondly, the kitchen area, which is a good 120 m² in size, is completely below deck. “We are very happy with the layout. We work on one level and there’s plenty of space to prepare everything properly. The delivered goods can easily be brought to the kitchen and the cold stores in the goods lift,” says the 38-year-old head chef, who used to work on the MS RheinPoesie. Fortunately, there’s also “plenty of space” upwards: Heinze is 1.95 m tall, the ceiling height is 2.10 m.

New formats and popular classics

The addition of the MS RheinGalaxie alongside the MS RheinPoesie means that Köln-Düsseldorfer now has a second attractive event ship, which is also quite a bit bigger, in Düsseldorf. The range of services on offer is now far more extensive and varied. The youngest member of the KD fleet will mainly be used for events, company functions, conferences, party cruises and pleasure trips on the Rhine. Guests can look forward to a successful blend of tried-and-tested formats and new offerings. The “Summer Beats" party series is a new addition and delivers the very finest house music. The latest dance and chart hits will be served up at the “No Limits Party”, where all drinks such as beer, (sparkling) wine and soft drinks are included in the ticket price. “Funky Friday” will feature the hottest music from the past 30 years. Spooky outfits are welcome at the Halloween party “Ghost Ship”, where the KD DJs will be spinning spinetingling tunes

Delicacies from Michelin-starred cuisine

Guests can also enjoy first class culinary creations on board, for example on the dinner cruise on Tuesday, 19 July with the Düsseldorf-based Michelin-starred chef Holger Berens. Among the popular classics are the all-inclusive, three-hour evening cruises with buffet and drinks (beer, wine and soft drinks) as well as DJ music. KD sets sail from Burgplatz in Düsseldorf for the two-hour chillout evening cruises every Thursday to Saturday.

Charter team finds the perfect boat for any event

If you’re looking for an exclusive setting for conferences, trade fairs, company functions, summer parties for employees and customers or private parties and family events, you’re in the best hands with Köln-Düsseldorfer. From the catering to the supporting programme, the KD Charter team will make sure everything on board the floating venues runs perfectly and in line with the customer’s wishes.
