Capital with a crown

The KD further expands its offer in Düsseldorf in 2019
Busy times at the jetty below Düsseldorf ’s Burgplatz: The KD has used the winter months to develop a host of further attractive offers for North Rhine-Westphalia’s state capital. In addition, the attractive MS RheinPoesie is getting a new, attractive companion with the MS RheinKrone.

Düsseldorf has always been a part of the KD’s name, and a glance at the current timetable of the river ships shows that the metropolis on the Rhine also plays a major role in its range of offers. Two years ago, the largest provider of boat tours on the Rhine, Main and Moselle returned to its almost 200-year-old roots and began systematically expanding its programme in Düsseldorf − with resounding success! The people of Düsseldorf, and all those who like to head to the sophisticated state capital for excursions, love to sail across the Rhine in front of the old town, the Rhine meadows, the media harbour and the state parliament, to enjoy the view and a delicacy or two on-board or to party hard out on the water.

KD event technique checks the ship

The success story continues

In 2018, the KD really got off to a flying start in Düsseldorf with its completely modernised river cruiser RheinPoesie and its strong media partner Rheinische Post, and promptly enriched the state capital with a whole series of attractive offers in time for the almost endless summer of the century.

What about 2019? This year the KD will take things to the next level in all areas. On the one hand, there are the ships: MS RheinPoesie is getting attractive reinforcement in the shape of the attractively named MS RheinKrone, which was previously used by the Hebel line on the Middle Rhine from Boppard. At the turn of the year, the KD took over the Hebel line and, with it, the pretty MS RheinKrone. After some minor conversion and painting work and new furnishing, the MS RheinKrone will be regularly weighing its anchors in Düsseldorf from spring onwards.

Elegant, sleek and with a generous feeling of spaciousness inside, it invites you above all to relaxed cruises and replaces the much smaller MS Heinrich Heine, which was previously the KD’s second ship in Düsseldorf. But it goes without saying that the MS RheinKrone and MS RheinPoesie can also be chartered for private and professional occasions. Both can accommodate up to 250 passengers and both are particularly attractive due to their spacious open decks extending over two levels – including a premium view. With her sleek lines and the many elegantly darkened windows, she’s definitely a perfect fit for Düsseldorf and is sure to become a favourite on the Rhine with a high recognition value right from the start.

Event ship in sight

And there’s more: Ship number three for Düsseldorf is currently being built at a shipyard in the Netherlands. The youngest, so to speak, but significantly bigger sister for the two capital city ships. Space for around 1,000 passengers, state-of-the-art event and propulsion technology, high-quality equipment and the third large event ship for the KD fleet alongside the MS RheinEnergie and MS RheinFantasie: This is the description of the new addition to the fleet which, if everything goes according to plan, will anchor for the first time in Düsseldorf in spring 2020.

The KD is already setting course this year to ensure that things run smoothly from a technical perspective. The existing jetty is being expanded so that it will also be possible to moor extremely large ships below the Schlossturm, where the KD traditionally has its jetty in Düsseldorf.

Even more offers

Of course, more and bigger ships also mean more possibilities to offer attractive programmes. And this is exactly what the KD is doing in Düsseldorf in 2019. Hot on the heels of a 2018 season with some overwhelming responses to the many event premieres from parties to dinner cruises, the KD is now offering some familiar as well as new offers. Read more about this in our report on page 70 ff.

After their premiere last year, it would be hard to imagine Düsseldorf ’s event calendar without the dinner trips, pearls in the culinary event calendar, where selected star chefs make a one-off guest appearance in the MS Rhein- Poesie galley and pamper the pleasure-loving guests with a four-course menu created exclusively for this one evening. The party series are also on the agenda again, because the people of Düsseldorf obviously loved dancing on the Rhine in 2018. This is evident in the speed at which tickets for parties such as “No Limits” or “Funky Friday” were sold out.

After a short test phase during the Advent season, the Sunday brunch cruises have now also become a permanent fixture in the timetable. And starting in June, the evening panorama cruise will provide the perfect afterwork event in Düsseldorf during the week. Those who have more time available can also board the ship in Düsseldorf for attractive day trips on the Rhine. This year, for the first time, there will even be a tour to Monheim. Roll on, summer!
