You should ideally purchase your tickets online providing all of your contact details. Until further notice, all tickets are only valid for the booked cruise and departure time. Contactless ticket purchasing is possible on site. KD’s ticketing system ensures that every ticket sale can be tracked, to ensure tracing of chains of transmission, if necessary. You must therefore provide your full contact details when you purchase tickets on site. To prevent waiting times and delays, we recommend that you buy your tickets in advance either from the online shop or from our ticket offices.
Masks covering the mouth and nose (or scarves, cloths, or similar) must be worn when purchasing tickets and in the queue for boarding.
The following rules apply on board: In general: Where the minimum distances cannot be observed, passengers must wear a mask covering the mouth and nose.
North Rhine-Westphalia: Passengers must wear a mask covering the mouth and nose inside the boats. This may only be removed while at a table consuming food and drinks. Masks do not have to be worn on the open deck.
Rhineland-Palatinate: Passengers must generally wear a mask covering the mouth and nose. This may only be removed while at a table consuming food and drinks.
Hesse: A mask covering the mouth and nose must be worn at all times in enclosed spaces on the boat. On the open deck this is recommended, but not mandatory.
The following are exempt from the obligation to wear a mask: - Children under 6 years of age - People who cannot wear a mask covering the mouth and nose due to a health impairment or disability.
You may consume food and drinks in designated areas of the boat. You must sit down while eating. To comply with the contact restrictions and minimum distance rules, fewer tickets are sold than there are seats available. Meals are either served on a plate at your table or on a plate at the buffet table. Drinks are either served at your table or at the bar. Drinks may also be consumed at the high tables on the open deck. The contact restrictions and distance rules must be observed.
North Rhine-Westphalia: Customer contact details must be recorded (including declaration of consent for data collection).
Rhineland-Palatinate: Name / address / telephone number must be recorded.
Hesse: Name / address / telephone number must be recorded (at the table).
In Cologne and Düsseldorf, as well as in Frankfurt and Cochem, the queuing areas are marked with appropriate signs. Mobile and cashless ticket purchasing is possible in the queuing area. There are signs showing the distance rules. Signs in the queuing area indicate that you have to wear a mask covering your mouth and nose. At the other stops we do not yet anticipate an increased number of passengers, so boarding should be problem-free.
Wherever possible, we use notices and floor stickers to indicate a one-way system. If passengers are unable to keep a distance, they must wear a mask covering the mouth and nose.
Provided that sufficient seats are available, you may sit anywhere you like, following the instructions of our staff on board. As soon as seating capacity becomes scarce, our staff will escort passengers (sometimes in groups, observing the distance rules) to the free tables.
The number of people is limited based on the size of the bathroom. The route to the toilets is clearly marked. A sign in front of the toilets indicates the distance rules. The toilets are cleaned regularly and cleaning is recorded in a document on the wall.
All staff in contact with passengers wear masks covering the mouth and nose and wash/disinfect their hands at least every 30 minutes. The 1.5-metre distance rules apply to all staff.
All contact surfaces are cleaned regularly. Tables are cleaned with each change of guests.
A dispenser with disinfectant can be found in the entrance area of the boats. All passengers must disinfect their hands before boarding the boat. All passenger toilets are also equipped with disinfectant dispensers.

The history of what is today "KD Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt" dates back to its founding year of 1826. At that time, two companies existed: "Preußisch-Rheinische Dampfschiffahrt-Gesellschaft" (headquartered in Cologne) and "Dampfschiffahrts-Gesellschaft für den Nieder- und Mittelrhein" (headquartered in Dusseldorf). Due to various economic factors, it was not possible for both companies to sustainably coexist and so, on 9 June 1853, the joint venture "Kölnische und Düsseldorfer Gesellschaft für Rhein-Dampfschiffahrt" was founded.
During KD's long history, the route network was constantly adapted and today the ships do not sail between Dusseldorf and Cologne, partly because the scenery along this route is less attractive and also because the journey would take 5 hours to sail upriver and 3 hours downriver.
The following journeys can be booked via the online shop:
• Scheduled services on the Rhine and Moselle within the scope of the KD timetable
• Panoramic cruises in Dusseldorf, Cologne and Frankfurt
• Combined tickets for the Siebengebirge mountain range and Koblenz
• Themed/event cruises
• Seasonal offerings, such as Christmas or New Year's Eve trips
• Food and drinks
We accept credit cards (Visa or Mastercard), Paypal and Sofortüberweisung (a direct payment service).
Depending on the journey, you may choose between print-at-home and posted tickets. Posted tickets will be sent to you via post. Print-at-home tickets will be sent to you via e-mail. A good-quality printout of this ticket in DIN A4 format must be presented to staff upon embarking the ship. Failing this, or if the ticket is illegible, a fee will be charged for a replacement ticket.
In addition to an advance booking charge and service charge per ticket, an order fee may be charged. The amount of any potential charges and fees will be indicated during the booking process. In the event that the buyer requests tickets, admission tickets or gift vouchers to be sent via post (instead of print-at-home), the buyer does so at their own risk. The total price of the order includes statutory VAT and is due for full payment, including all fees, immediately upon conclusion of the contract.
You may change your booking up to one day prior to the departure date, provided that the desired alternative journey costs the same price or less. In this case, we can change your reservation as per your request. You will receive any difference in price in the form of an online voucher. Please contact us in writing with your re-booking request. A re-booking fee will not be charged. It is not possible to book an alternative journey that costs more than your original booking. In this case, we can cancel your booking in accordance with our cancellation policy.
You may cancel your booking up to one day prior to the departure date. Bookings of journeys for special firework displays and New Year's Eve are excluded. You may receive a reimbursement of the invoice price minus a cancellation fee of 20% (at least 3 euros). The cancellation sum will be reimbursed via the payment method used at the time of purchase.
Unfortunately, external factors may occasionally cause cruises to be cancelled. We therefore need your contact information in order to keep you up to date of any changes. KD will not send you any promotional material unless you explicitly request it.
