Beikircher tells the stories and knows what he’s talking about. His new programme is a little summary of 57 years of life in the Rhineland universe. The horrors of first contact, the discovery of similarities with Italy, the happiness of the voyeur when immersing oneself in the foreign world, peeling the onion of the Rhineland layer by layer, the delightful experience of the bright side of Being in the Rhineland. The path that leads into this, “my Rhenish sense of being-at-home”, is paved with stories, truths, half-truths and wonderful people of the kind sung about by the band Bläck Fööß: ‘Mutzebuckel, Avjebrühte, Drecksack un Filou …’. [Party-pooper, hard-nosed, scumbag and rascal] The programme is thus Beikircher's ‘tiny testament to the Rhineland’, as it were – no notary required!
