The sight of the turning paddles brings old times back to life. When you enter the saloons with their faithfully reproduced art déco fittings and furnishings, you feel yourself transported back to the swinging twenties. Still the largest side paddle steamer in the world today, this vessel, which was placed in service in 1913, has had an eventful history and, after being hit by a bomb in World War Two, actually spent several years lying submerged on the bed of the Rhine. Following extensive restoration in 1996, the GOETHE is a magnificent sight today and celebrated her 100th anniversary in 2013.
The excursion with the GOETHE through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Rhine guarantees an authentic experience of the picturesque landscape. From late April to early October the "old lady" travels each day along what is known as the KD Nostalgia Route between Koblenz and Rüdesheim. At 9.00 am every morning, the ship’s horn sounds in Koblenz to announce that the GOETHE is setting sail. A real experience!
The access to the main deck is approx. 50 cm higher than the surrounding area. Passengers with limited mobility can reach the upper deck using a stair lift. A wheelchair-accessible bathroom is available on the main deck.
