Nowhere in the world are there as many medieval castles as on this unique stretch of the Rhine, which in June 2002 was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. For instance Ehrenbreitstein Fortress at the German Corner in Koblenz, Stolzenfels Castle, ort he uniquely well-preserved Marksburg Castle in Braubach. Take a look at Cat and Mouse Castles before you come to the undoubted highlight of any Middle Rhine tour – the legendary Loreley Rock! The myth lives on, high above the Rhine, at the top of the gigantic cliff. But the attractions don’t end there. Experience Schönburg Castle at Oberwesel, Pfalz Castle standing in midstream near Kaub, and the romantic wine village of Bacharach with Stahleck Castle. In Rüdesheim you must not miss a visit to the famous Drosselgasse!

Those who wish to experience the whole of the UNESCO Heritage site should begin their tour in the famous wine town of Rüdesheim. The snake-like bend in the Rhine near Bingen marks the beginning of one of the most exciting stretches. Romantic castle such as the Pfalz at Kaub and Schönburg near Oberwesel proudly keep watch over the Loreley Valley and, steeped in legend, tell of a turbulent history. Enchanting towns and idyllic medieval villages line the banks of the river, bearing witness to the Rhine’s cultural tradition. In St. Goarshausen you come to the fabulous Loreley Rock, which each year attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. A few miles downstream, near Kamp-Bornhofen, stand the so-called „Hostile Brothers”, while in Braubach the best preserved hilltop fortress in the Rhine Valley, Marksburg Castle, awaits you. Enjoy this unique view and a hint of the Middle Ages as you relax on board a KD ship.

Take a KD cruise past the former German capital Bonn to the legendary Drachenfels Rock at Königswinter.
There you can take the rack railway up to the spot where, according to legend, Siegfried killed the dragon. Enjoy the unique view down over the Rhine Valley. If you prefer to stay on the river bank, you will find a wonderful promenade which simply invites you to take a stroll.

Of course it is worthwhile sailing on further to explore the rest of the mountain range. For instance the picturesque town of Bad Honnef is rightly called the „Nice of the Rhineland”.
Delightful little towns such as Unkel and Linz, with their half-timbered houses and winding lanes, invite you to stay a while, as do the spa towns Bad Breisig and Bad Hönningen.

New! KD two-in-one ticket! For an additional € 1.80 visit Sea Life Königswinter.

Bicycle Specials on the Rhine! Tuesday is Cycle Day! So, cyclists come aboard and pay half price (2 for the price of 1) for any one-way trip. (Not valid on ships of partner companies).
